Visa Requirement

Tourist visas are issued upon arrival and are free for citizens of most countries. Visitors are allowed to stay for up to 30 days and can extend their tourist visa at the immigration office in Kuah. Make sure your passport is valid for at least six months after your date of entry into Malaysia. Most nationalities do not require visas for social or business visits.

In general the rule is as follows;

Commonwealth citizens (except for India, Bangladesh, Pakistan and Sri Lanka). British protected persons or citizens of the Republic of Ireland and citizens of Switzerland, the Netherlands, San Marino and Liechtenstein do not need a visa to enter Malaysia.

Citizens of certain countries which include Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Iceland, Japan, Republic of Korea, Lebanon, Luxembourg, Norway, Sweden, Saudi Arabia, Tunisia, Turkey, Italy, United Arab Emirates and the United States of America do not require a visa for a visit not exceeding three months.

Citizens of European Countries, Baltic and Commonwealth of Independent States, Afghanistan, Iran, Iraq, Libya, Romania and Syria do not need a visa for a visit not exceeding two weeks. Citizens of North Korea, Cuba, the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, the People Republic of China and holders of Hong Kong Certificate of Identify, Myanmar and Taiwan are allowed to enter Malaysia subject to their application for a visa being approved.

Transportation

Airplane

Since Langkawi is an island, the most convenient way to get here is by plane. Most visitors fly into Langkawi International Airport, which is located 20kms from Kuah and eight kilometres from Pantai Cenang in the Padang Matsirat district.

 

 

Ferry

If you are already in the area, it is possible to get to Langkawi by ferry. Travelling by ferry is the most popular form of transport on and off the island, with daily service from Kuala Kedah, Kuala Perlis and Penang in Malaysia and from Satun in Thailand. Several companies offer ferry service, so there's rarely a problem getting a seat. All boats arrive at the main ferry terminal in Kuah, where there are taxis waiting to take you to your hotel.

 

 

Accomodation

Two nights hotel accommodation is provided for free if you registered & paid before May 31, 2010.

Places of Attraction

The conference secretariat will organize an Island Tour on July 9, 2010. Seats are limited & registration is base on first come first serve basis. There are lots of interesting places you may want to visit at Langkawi. Among them are Langkawi Cable Car, Eagle Square, Pulau Payar Marine Park, Underwater World Langkawi and others. Time Zone

Malaysia is 8 hours ahead of Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) and 16 hours ahead of the United States Pacific Standard Time

Credit Cards and Travellers Cheque

Major credir card (i.e. Master card, Visa, American Express and Diners Club) are widely accepted in Malaysia and can be used to obtain cash advances at banks and automatic teller machines (ATMs).

Travelers chequeare accepted by all banks, hotels and large department stores. To avoid additional exchange rate charges, it is advised that the traveler's cheque are in Punds Sterling, US Dollars or Australian Dollars.

Electricity Voltage

The electricity supply in Malaysia is 220-250 AC Volts
